This cathedral façade project is a striking example of how thoughtful lighting design can elevate heritage architecture with elegance and innovation
Lighting a cathedral façade is more than a technical challenge — it’s a creative and cultural responsibility. In our recent project in Marin-Epagnier, Switzerland, we were entrusted with the task of designing a lighting system that would enhance the grandeur of the cathedral while respecting its architectural legacy and spiritual importance.
The process began with a detailed study of the building’s structure and history. From the ornate carvings and towering arches to the weathered stone façades, every element held significance. We selected warm white tones to complement the natural textures of the historic materials and strategically placed narrow-beam luminaires to highlight key architectural features without overwhelming the building’s integrity. The lighting was carefully calibrated to create depth and rhythm across the façade, while minimizing light pollution and energy consumption.

Today, the cathedral in Marin-Epagnier shines with new life after dark — not just illuminated, but celebrated. The final result is a harmonious balance of light and shadow that brings the structure’s craftsmanship into focus, invites reflection, and reinforces its place as a landmark in the heart of the community.
